We were excited to welcome Adam Renfroe, Tournament Director of the Constellation Furyk and Friends Tournament, back to On The Green Podcast for Episode 41. Following the success of the inaugural Furyk and Friends Tournament in 2021, Adam shared his hopes and plans for an even more successful event this year. Slated for October 3-9, 2022, this PGA TOUR Champions event will take place at the beautiful Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.
Charitable Impact
Reflecting on last year’s tournament, Adam says, “We were thrilled and frankly blown away with the response from the market, the fans that came out to see the tournament, and just how the week went overall.” As Adam explains, the key metric for determining the tournament’s success was its charitable impact. By that measure, it was a massive success—raising over $1.17 million for charity!
The Constellation Furyk and Friends Tournament is tied directly to the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation, which was founded in 2010 with the mission of helping children and families in Northeast Florida. In addition, the tournament is tied with several different charities, including Habitat for Humanity, First Tee of North Florida, St. Johns’ Riverkeeper, Wolfson’s Children Hospital, and many more. “There are so many great opportunities to help in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. We know the need is great,” Adam says. “We feature a number of charities, but it certainly doesn’t just include those charities. We support many more beyond this and any that are in need. We frequently collaborate with our partners to understand which charities they’re supporting so we can also support them, which allows us to broaden our impact. Through the tournament, we raised considerable more dollars to infuse into the market, and many organizations depend on that.”
The Constellation Furyk and Friends Tournament
One of the main focuses of last year’s inaugural event was laying out an incredible experience for the fans, Adam explains. He and his team are hoping to only build upon last year’s success by continuing to leverage the market’s awareness of what the tournament is.
This PGA TOUR Champions event features golfers aged 50 and over, allowing audiences to see some of the greatest golfers that ever lived competing right in their community. Just a few of the big names fans can expect to see include Notah Begay, David Duval, Steve Stricker, and Freddie Couples. Several golfers from last year’s tournament are returning this year since they enjoyed their time so much and enjoyed playing on the course.
The host course, the Timuquana Country Club, was designed by the renowned Donald Ross. As Adam explains, the course has an “awesome, old-school design” that underwent significant renovations in the last year, improving an already great layout.
Several surrounding special events will take place during tournament week, including three days of private pro-am experiences, allowing fans the special opportunity to play with PGA Champions. Other events include the Furyk Foundation Concert, the Celebrity Challenge for Charity, Birdie Beers at Circle K Party Porch, and the Champions Breakfast, which features the legendary Jack Nicklaus as keynote speaker.
According to Adam, the team expects another sold-out event this year. General admission tickets are available for $25 a day. Youth aged 17-and-under get in for free with a ticketed adult, and military personnel and their families are allowed free entry to the tournament.
